Wool Felt Care Tips
1. Daily Cleaning
- Handmade wool felt is formed by compressing wool fibers, giving it a natural soft texture. Daily cleaning should always be gentle.
- Use a soft brush to lightly sweep in one direction to remove surface dust and keep the fibers fluffy.
- If noticeable dust buildup occurs, use a hair dryer on the cool setting from 20–30 cm away to blow the dust off.
- For small raised details (e.g., ears, tails, petals), use a small soft brush to clean around the edges.
- Avoid wiping large areas with a wet cloth, as moisture may cause the fibers to swell or lose shape.
2. Spot Cleaning
- Wool felt is not suitable for washing. For spot cleaning, use a pressing motion instead of rubbing.
- Light stains: Gently press with a slightly damp cloth to lift the stain.
- Oil stains: Sprinkle a small amount of cornstarch, let it sit for a few hours to absorb the oil, then brush off gently.
- Powdery debris: Lightly tap to remove loose particles, then clean with a soft brush.
- Do not use detergents, alcohol, wet wipes, or strong cleaning agents, as these may affect the fiber structure.
3. Shape & Structure Maintenance
- The three‑dimensional form of wool felt relies on interlocked fibers, so it should be protected from external pressure.
- Avoid long‑term compression, folding, or placing heavy objects on top.
- If slight deformation occurs, gently reshape it with your fingers, following the natural direction of the fibers.
- For thin or delicate parts (e.g., leaves, horns, tails), avoid pulling or bending repeatedly.
- If the felt becomes soft due to humidity, place it in a ventilated area to allow it to recover naturally.
4. Storage
- Proper storage helps extend the lifespan of wool felt items.
- Keep them in a dry, well‑ventilated environment to prevent moisture absorption and deformation.
- Use dust bags, sealed bags, or storage boxes to reduce dust accumulation.
- Avoid direct sunlight to prevent gradual color fading over time.
- For long‑term storage, place a small moisture‑absorbing sheet nearby to maintain dryness.
5. Ventilation Tip
- New wool felt items may carry a faint, natural wool aroma when first unpacked.
- Place the item in a ventilated area for 24–48 hours to allow this to dissipate naturally.
- Do not spray perfume, deodorizer, or any mist directly onto the surface, as this may leave marks or affect the fibers.
- For faster air circulation, gently shake the item in a shaded area.
6. Usage Considerations
- To maintain the texture and shape of wool felt, keep the following in mind during use:
- Avoid friction with rough surfaces to prevent pilling or fiber pulling.
- Keep away from humid areas such as bathrooms or near kitchen sinks.
- For decorative pieces, lightly brush them from time to time to keep them clean.
- For keychains or bag charms, avoid prolonged friction with metal keys or hard objects.
7. Things to Avoid
- Do not wash, soak, or machine‑wash.
- Do not tumble‑dry or expose to high heat.
- Do not rub or pull forcefully.
- Keep away from pets to avoid chewing or scratching.
